A royal decree was issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, with decision number 24/49/1429 on 3/7/1429 AH, regarding the establishment of a university in Rabigh as a branch of King Abdulaziz University. This included the creation of the Faculty of Science and Arts in Rabigh as the cornerstone for the flourishing of scientific research and academic development in various basic sciences. This decision to establish the Faculty of Science and Arts in Rabigh served as a gem adorning this great academic institution. Since then, the university has worked on developing plans and curricula that rival prestigious global universities, aiming to produce outstanding educational outcomes for graduates and researchers. The university began receiving preparatory year students for the first semester of the academic year 1429/1430 AH. In the second semester of the academic year 1430/1431 AH, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud approved the official name of the Faculty of Science and Arts in Rabigh, as part of his approval of several decisions made by the Higher Education Council, which included the restructuring of some departments and faculties at the Rabigh campus. The following departments were activated: the Department of Mathematics, Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry, and Department of Biology. Additionally, some supporting departments were created, including the Department of Islamic Culture and Language Skills, the Department of Communication Skills, and the Department of English Language, which was later activated to meet the needs of the labor market and the region's nature. The faculty has made strong and rapid progress since its inception, introducing academic programs, scientific tracks, and curricula based on international standards in scientific research in various basic sciences, with the goal of achieving excellent educational outcomes for graduates and researchers in basic sciences and their applications. Over the past five years, the number of students enrolling in the faculty has steadily increased.
