King Abdulaziz University hosted a delegation representing the Rhodes Scholarship
at the University of Oxford on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, as part of the delegation’s tour
of several Saudi universities to introduce the program through informational
meetings.
During the visit, the delegation met with the Vice President for Educational Affairs, Dr.
Mohammed Reda Kabli, in the presence of Dr. Mamdouh Shouman, Director of
Global Engagement and External Affairs, along with a number of university leaders
and students eligible for the scholarship. Discussions focused on ways to support
efforts to raise awareness of international educational opportunities available to
students.
The meeting introduced the scholarship program, reviewed the nomination criteria
and application process, and explored opportunities for cooperation with the program
in ways that support outstanding students and strengthen their participation in
prestigious international programs.
King Abdulaziz University is recognized for its leadership in adopting high-impact
initiatives dedicated to preparing outstanding students to compete for the world’s
most prestigious scholarships, foremost among them the Rhodes Scholarship. In line
with its vision of supporting national talent and advancing its academic and research
development, the University has established an integrated program to prepare
students by developing their leadership skills, strengthening their research
capabilities, and equipping them to apply for and compete for this global scholarship.
Candidates are nominated through a thorough review of applications and interviews
conducted by academics and leaders from various fields to identify students with
academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to community service.
Founded in Oxford in 1903, the Rhodes Scholarship is one of the oldest international
academic scholarship programs. Its dedicated program for Saudi students began in
2018, with generous support from the Abdulrahman Nasser Al-Agil Sons Charitable
Foundation.
