King Abdulaziz University Tops Saudi Universities in Health Research 2025 Initiative

King Abdulaziz University has secured the top position among Saudi universities in the “Supporting Health Research Priorities 2025” initiative launched by the Saudi National Institute for Health Research (SNIHR), achieving first place with 11.8% of the total submitted research proposals.

The university’s participation in this initiative, which reflects several agreements with the Saudi National Institutes of Health (NIH), aims to translate research ideas into practical, tangible solutions to address pressing health challenges both locally and globally. The focus is on applied research in critical fields such as infectious diseases, artificial intelligence in medicine, and nanotechnology.

Key projects include:

• Prof. Syed Sartaj Sohrab - Developing siRNAs as alternative therapies for Hepatitis C virus infections.
• Dr. Jehan Saad Alrehimi - Designing bacteriophage-coated catheters to reduce urinary tract infections.
• Dr. Hossam Hatim Tayeb - Creating a nanovaccine against multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae.
• Dr. Maimonah Saad Alghanmi - Developing monoclonal antibodies against Plasmodium for diagnostic

Additional projects include:

• Dr. Anas Hassan Alzahrani - Building a clinical decision support system for upper respiratory tract infections.
• Prof. Anwar Mohammed Hashem - Developing preventive vaccines against highly pathogenic coronaviruses.
• Dr. Rajaa Mohammed Alraddadi - Assessing risks of lower respiratory tract infections in patients with chronic diseases.
• Dr. Ahdab A. AlSaieedi - Applying clinical metagenomics for early disease diagnosis.
