King Abdulaziz University, represented by the Faculty of Architecture and Planning,
in partnership with the Saudi Society of Landscape Architecture, launched the
activities of World Landscape Architecture Month 2026. The initiative aims to
reinforce the concepts of environmental sustainability and develop innovative urban
environments that enhance quality of life, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision
2030. The program began on Sunday, April 26, 2026, and will continue until April 30
at the Faculty of Architecture and Planning.

Organized to highlight the pivotal role of landscape architecture in supporting the
objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, the event promotes sustainability principles and
contributes to improving quality of life by developing resilient, integrated urban
environments that respond to contemporary changes. It also sheds light on the
discipline’s contributions to addressing environmental and social challenges through
innovative design solutions.

The Department of Landscape Architecture, which has offered the first bachelor’s
program in this field in the Middle East since its establishment in 1976, is presenting
a diverse program in partnership with the Saudi Society of Landscape Architecture, a
member of the International Federation of Landscape Architects. Activities include
panel discussions and meetings that bring together students and alumni with leading
figures in the field, as well as academic lectures, practical workshops, and field trips,
promoting the exchange of knowledge and expertise among participants.

Through lectures, workshops, and panel discussions featuring leading specialists in
the field, the program highlights the role of landscape architecture in supporting
sustainability, achieving the targets of Vision 2030, and enhancing quality of life
through innovative design solutions.

The initiative aims to raise awareness of the role of landscape architecture in
designing public spaces and improving quality of life; underscore the importance of
environmental sustainability and the protection of natural resources through urban
design; encourage community and student engagement with open spaces and
understanding their value; support innovation in the design of natural and urban

environments; present creative solutions; and strengthen knowledge exchange and
cooperation among specialists and relevant entities.

World Landscape Architecture Month is an annual global occasion that celebrates
the role of the discipline in designing open spaces and natural and built
environments, transforming ideas into projects that contribute to building more
sustainable communities and improving quality of life.
