20260412890King Abdulaziz University, represented by the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and the Center of Excellence for Climate Change Research, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) to enhance scientific and technical cooperation in meteorological observation and environmental sustainability. The agreement aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and was signed on Sunday, 15 February 2026, at the University President’s Office.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the University by KAU President, Dr. Tareef bin Youssef Alaama, while NCM was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ayman bin Salem Ghulam. Through this agreement, both parties aim to establish a practical framework for exchanging specialized knowledge and building qualified national capacities in the meteorology and climate sector. The partnership integrates the University’s academic expertise with NCM’s role as the national reference and regulatory authority in meteorology.
The MoU seeks to leverage the research and logistical capabilities of both institutions. It activates joint academic supervision of postgraduate students affiliated with NCM and supports the design of specialized educational programs that include executive tracks in advanced disciplines such as cloud seeding technologies. The agreement also promotes unified efforts in conducting advisory studies and applied research to support national decision making in addressing climate related challenges.
In addition, the MoU provides for the exchange of meteorological data, satellite imagery, and numerical weather prediction models for educational purposes. It grants access to laboratories and technical facilities to support student field training. The agreement emphasizes innovation through the implementation of digital innovation initiatives and cloud based services aimed at strengthening the national meteorological ecosystem.
The partnership also prioritizes community outreach by launching joint media and educational initiatives to enhance public awareness of weather phenomena and climate sciences. Furthermore, it includes organizing specialized events and workshops to encourage general education students to pursue academic pathways in Earth and climate sciences. These efforts contribute to raising awareness of cloud seeding technologies and ensuring the long term sustainability of qualified national talent in this strategic sector.
