About SDRG

Objectives

1.     To study and identify the principle factors leading to variation in disease incidence between population subgroups for the formulation of aetiological hypotheses

2.     To provide a reliable map of disease risk in different regions of Saudi Arabia; starting with Jeddah; to allow better resource allocation and risk assessment.

3.     To identify population subgroups of unusually high risk, in order to develop appropriate preventive intervention strategies

4.     To collaborate with WHO collaborating centers on investigating the etiology and prevention of diabetes in different population subgroups.

5.     To perform research projects related to diabetes prevention, management, and eventually cure.

6.     To support young researchers interested in diabetes investigations

7.     To establish collaborative links with other local and global leading research centers in diabetes mellitus

8.     To establish DM related data base starting with Jeddah area

9.     9- To participate actively in preventive programmes

Primary research areas:

1-      The geographical distributions of the prevalence and the incidence of different types of DM among inhabitants of the Jeddah,  variations between sexes, ethnic origin, and between age groups

2-      The association between the geographical variation of the different types of DM and their putative environmental risk factors.

3-      The effect of environmental factors on the progression of diabetes among sample of known diabetics

4-      The association between incidence of different types of DM and their dietary risk factors.

5-      The association between the incidence of different types of DM and genetic risk factors.
