Abstract : Multimedia (MM) is an increasingly important tool in training and development for high¬technology medical techniques and education. This paper investigates- at a broad range of methods for incorporating multimedia expert system (ES) services into the word of heart diseases diagnosis, training, and education. Although. there are many computer based diagnosis systems are developed for medicine, however the number of expert systems exist for human heart diagnoses domain are still very few. Even the existing systems are not mainly based for providing multimedia services and they lack reliability and flexibility. These systems are usually designed using traditional software methodologies. They do not gain complete benefits of multimedia service interfaces available nowadays in modem software languages such as visual prolog. A primary application of ES provides users with advice based on accumulated knowledge; MM provides an improved presentation of information. Thus, these two technologies have the potential to complement each other and, combined in the same application, to overcome inherent individual system limitations. The merger of ES and MM provides an enhancement impact on the presentation of advisory and training expertise. This increases of productivity during system development and achieves a better acceptance of the 'system by users. The work proposed in this paper is based on using modern software technology methods for the design and implementation of a medical multimedia expert system for heart diseases diagnoses and training. The system will be implemented using Visual Prolog having into consideration the heavy use of the multimedia services to design and implement system data bases and friendly intelligent multimedia user menus and interfaces. The system- proposed is constructed of several phases that include knowledge acquisition phase for heart disease diagnosis and symptoms. knowledge representation phase using rules, frames, and semantic networks, and system modules phase. The system's modules phase will consist of modules for symptom detection, signs detection, patient investigation, and final diagnosis. respectively. A working prototype of the system is built and tested. The system is then evaluated and validated by domain experts and physicians working in the field of heart disease diagnosis.
