Abstract : A General Purpose Fuzzy Logic Based Computer System (GPFLCS) has been designed and implemented using PROLOG on a PC. It can be used for all kinds of control systems, i.e. SISO and MIMO systems. The system is a flexible developing tool, as it enables the user to choose any of the well known FLC techniques in different stages of the design process, either in membership function shape and number, inference technique, or defuzzification technique. The developed system helps the user to choose the most suitable technique be providing him with a set of demonstration graphs which compare different FLC techniques with each other. The system is modular in design. It contains a knowledge base which includes both the database and rule base components of the system. The database provides necessary definitions which are used to define the linguistic rules and fuzzy data manipulations. On the other hand, the rule base characterizes the goal and the control policy. The system was tested in The Aluminum Company of Egypt to control the level and weight of the coke in a rotary type calciner system and gave superior results over the manually operated system.
