Abstract : The current study aimed to identify the strategies of cognitive and emotional regulation as a mediating variable between mental alertness, depression and anxiety in a sample of patients. The total study sample consisted of (72) patients, 24 of whom were female, and 48 were male patients in mental health hospitals in the Asir region, who attended (Mahayel Hospital, Rijal Alma Hospital, Al Majardah Hospital). (9 cases of Rijal Almaa Hospital), (25 cases of Al-Majardah Hospital), (38 cases of Mahayel General Hospital), and their ages ranged between (20) to (52) years. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used a questionnaire (Strategies for Emotional Cognitive Regulation), prepared by (Garnefski, Kraaij, & Spinhoven, 2007), translated by (Hala Jamal Abdel Qader, 2018 AD) and the Five-Aspect Mindfulness Scale (FFMQ) designed by Baer et al. al.2006), translated by: (Prof. Dr. Abdel-Raqib Ahmed Al-Behairy et al., 2014), and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS) (Lovibond; 1995), translated by (Mahamid, 2016). The results of the study showed: there is an inverse relationship between mental alertness and depression on the one hand and between mental alertness and anxiety on the other hand, and that cognitive organization strategies mediate between mental alertness and depression on the one hand and between mental alertness and anxiety on the other hand, as it is clear from the results that mental alertness has Positive effects on mental health among patients, and that mental alertness improves with cognitive-emotional regulation. Keywords: cognitive regulation strategies, mental alertness, depression, anxiety.
