Abstract : Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma (BSCC) is an aggressive variant of squamous cell carcinoma with a predilection for the upper aerodigestive tract. BSCC should be recognized as a separate entity owing to the difference in its clinical behavior. Histologically this tumor can mimic other neoplasms like adenocystic carcinoma, neuro endocrine carcinoma and basal cell adenocarcinoma. In this study two cases of BSCC were reported where their histologic and immunohistochemical findings were described with an emphasis on comparing the tumors with adenocystic carcinoma of salivary glands. The results suggested that immunohistochemical findings were helpful in distinguishing BSCC of the oral cavity from adenocystic carcinoma. The distinction is important because genuine adenocystic carcinoma ·(ACC) is much less aggressive than BSCC. * Assistant Professor, Oral Pathology Department, Faculty of Dentistry, Alexandria University.
