Abstract : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of electric vestibular stimulation to modulate muscle tone and accelerate motor recovery in cases of Erbs palsy. Thirty infants from both sexes, suffering from Erbs palsy participated in this study, with the age ranged between twenty five to forty days, having unilateral involvement. They were selected from the Out-patient Clinic, Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University. The sample was randomly divided into two groups of equal number (study and control groups), each comprised fifteen patients. Patients of both groups were subjected to therapeutic exercises program, while those belonging to study group were subjected to electric vestibular stimulation in addition. Treatment continued for both groups for three successive months, at three sessions per week basis. All patients were exposed to the same physiotherapeutic evaluations (strength duration curve, muscle tone and volitional movements) before and after the suggested period of treatment. Results showed improvement in all measured parameters in both groups but significant differences were recorded in favor of the study group. From the obtained results, it can be concluded that electronic vestibular stimulation may have an additional value in the treatment of Erbs palsy.
