Abstract : The study aimed to inventory and define the locations of pharmacies in the northern districts of Jeddah, classifying a nd identifying health services that fall within a specific range of pharmacies' locati ons. It also identify the characteristics of these locations, the current distribution pa ttern of the pharmacies, and the related factors influencing the distri bution pattern such as existin g health services and the characteristics of the streets and th e neighborhood. The rese archer used the descriptive approach, as well as the spatial analysis thr ough the appropriate analytical functions available in Geographic Info rmation System - GIS. The ArcGIS ١٠٫١ software, was used with functions such as the nearest neighbor, the standard distance, and the distribution trend. The Google Earth ٧٫١ were also used to verify locations on site. The study has undergone several stages started with the inventorying of all the pharmacies in the study area through fiel d study, creating a geodatabase of the pharmacies and other health services, and then performi ng the appropriate analysis functions for studying these locations and e xploring their characte ristics using GIS. The total number of the pharmacies found is about ٣٥٣ pharmacies distributed over ١٨ districts. The study constituted of five ch apters, The first one discussed the general outline of the study. The second chapter overvi ewed the status of pharmacies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The third chapte r discussed the current situation of pharmacies in study area. The forth chapte r concentrated on studying and analyzing locations' characteristics of pharmacies in the study area. Finally, the fifth chapter is devoted to conclusions and recommendations . The most important results of the study showed that the distribution pa ttern of Pharmacies in the north districts of Jeddah is clustered. The study also showed that pha rmacies' locations seem to exist around clinics that have more than one specialtie s. The study concluded with a number of suggestions and recommendations which calls to reconsider the granting of building permits to pharmacies to take spatial and socio-economic criteria into consideration. Also, to make digital data about pharmaci es and health services available for researchers.
