HPC Center to organize the HPC Saudi 2018 conference

Under the patronage of His Excellency KAU President, Prof. Abdulrahman O. Al-Youbi, the High Performance Computing Center will organize The HPC Saudi Conference 2018 to be held at the King Fahd Medical Research Center from March 12 to 14, 2018. The opening ceremony will be on Monday 12 March at 9:00 am in King Fahd Medical Research Center.

The High Performance Computing Center, under the umbrella of the University's Vice Presidency for Development, oversees the management and operation of the Supercomputer (Aziz), which was launched in 2015 to be the second largest supercomputer at the level of Arab universities. The Center aims to contribute to the realization of Saudi Arabia Vision 2030 through the development of research and software in the field of Big Data and High Performance Computing, as well as applications that work through these technologies.

The Director of the High Performance Computing Center of KAU, Dr. Iyad Katib, emphasizes the importance of hosting this conference, which is held this year in its eighth edition and hosted by the University for the first time, after specific institutions organized it in the past such as Aramco, King Abdulaziz City of Science and Technology, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology.

Dr. Katib explains that this conference is an opportunity to highlight the outstanding research activities of faculty members and students in the field of high performance computing, and enables participants to benefit from distinguished invited speakers, from Harvard, Cambridge and Tokyo universities, as well as corporate speakers, such as Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu and others. Dr. Katib adds that this is a great opportunity for building bridges for developing products that help build smart societies.

It is worth noting that the conference discusses a number of topics of interest to different categories, whether decision makers in institutions or operations managers or technical service providers or researchers in the field of high performance computing, whether in academic studies or industry, or students through the workshop and tutorials provided by the conference. The conference will also be accompanied by an exhibition of international companies participating in the conference presenting the latest technologies in high performance computing.
