Functions of the Department

  • Supervising the maintenance of the automatic system used in the library.
  • Daily follow-up of the processes of operating the automatic system and presenting solutions and recommendations for the problems that face the user of the systems.
  • Technical coordination for these processes between the Library, the automatic systems companies and other concerned sectors inside the University.
  • Presenting ideas, advices and technical suggestions concerning programmes, required devices and preparing the training plans for specific systems.




Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the operation of the Library Management System (Symphony).
  • Supervising the maintenance of the Library Intranet.
  • Overseeing the preparation and operation of systems and programmes on the network and workstation server.
  • Overseeing the direct operation of the automatic catalog inside the Library.
  • Overseeing the operation of the automatic catalog on the internet electronic portal.
  • Training the Library employees on the applications of the system.
  • Presenting the technical support to the users of the system in the central library and the branched libraries.
  • Making a daily reserve copy of data (from the network server).
  • Making a weekly reserve copy of data and depositing it at the Deanship of Information Technology.
  • Coordinating with the companies tendering for the system of library management in making the modernizations and system maintenance.
  • Participating in laying out the specifications of devices and in the selection process.




Authorities

  • Nominating the Department employees for training courses.
  • Endorsing the vacations of the Department employees.
  • Deputizing some authorities to some Department employees if the benefit of work justifies that act
