It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the official site of the Department of Hydrogeology at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. I would like to take this opportunity to furnish you with some information about this department. Hydrogeology department was established in 1970 as an independent department in the center of Applied Geology for graduate studies offering Higher Diploma, M.Sc, and Ph.D. Degrees. B. Sc. Degree started after the centre joined King Abdulaziz University in 1975 to become the Institute of Applied Geology and then, the Faculty of Earth Sciences.

The education plan of the Department was originally set up to provide students with the latest developments in the field of hydrogeology assisted by integration with modern technology such as remote sensing, GIS, geophysics, computer programming and statistics. New areas of interests including isotopes in hydrogeology, groundwater pollution and surface and groundwater modeling were recently introduced. The department includes up to date laboratories and field equipment.

The department is very active in conducting research and indulging with different research subjects related to hydrogeology including evaluation of groundwater resources in the Arabian Shield and Arabian shelf, groundwater quality and usability, applications of environmental isotopes in hydrology, groundwater pollution, groundwater resources management, modeling of groundwater systems, applications of GIS in hydrogeology, and environmental impact on surface runoff and groundwater
