Department Goals

 

Since its inception, the Department of Arabic has been pursuing the following objectives:

1. Preparing graduates holding a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic language and literature for meeting the needs of the country regarding specialists in all branches of the Arabic language;


2. Furthering the national capacity of graduates in Arabic language and literature to meet the needs of relevant organizations in the Kingdom and abroad, based on the spreading of Islam and on the teaching of Arabic to foreign learners in the completion of the mission assigned;


3. Advancing studies and research in literature and language, aiming to serve the language of the Koran and the development of appropriate capacities to absorb the concepts and meanings of contemporary civilizations; furthering the development of theories on the demands of contemporary life and that of future generations;


4. Promoting the revival of Arab heritage, language and literature to provide enlightenment for the benefit of intellectuals in different parts of the globe; contributing to the task of highlighting ancient Arab civilization and of opening new horizons for the performance of its humanitarian mission;

5. Contributing to projects in the College of Arts and the University by providing materials and teaching courses required by the various sections, departments and centers, and providing linguistic advice to interested parties, sponsoring the projects in question;


6. Spreading the language of the Koran among non-Arab Muslim communities, to allow them to learn Arabic in its pure state, which will enable them to consult Islamic publications and books, i.e., the original religious sources.

7. Making the original sources in Arabic language available to Orientalists in order to avoid the flaws and inaccuracies that permeates almost all non-Muslim writings on Islam.


8. Preparing qualified professionals eligible for university work and able to advance their career by attending the Graduate Program;

9. Contributing to skill development programs offered by the University, including the preparation of professional writers, public speakers, journalists, and the like.
