Arabic is a language of rich heritage culture, history and an old civilization. Over centuries, It contributed widely to knowledge and advancement of science in the world. It is currently spoken by over 200 millions people. It is also sacred to 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide. United Union has adopted Arabic language since 1974 as one of its 6 official languages.
The KAU Department of Arabic Language was established in the academic year 1977/1978. It currently grants BA, MA and PhD degrees in Arabic language and literature. Course offerings and faculty research are vast in reach and ambition. The Department's curriculum aims to provide students with a broad theoretical and practical knowledge of classical and modern literary Arabic, to acquaint them with Arabic language and Arabic literature in its various periods and genres, and to supply them with the skills necessary for an independent and critical analysis of literary, religious, and grammatical texts.
