Dr Ahmed Hamid Nagadi, KAU Vice President for Business and Knowledge Creativity, has patronized on behalf of HE Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, KAU President, a ceremony held by the KAU Research and Consulting Institute on Sunday 1st November 2009, corresponding to 13th Zul Qaeda 1430 in celebration of the achievements of the KAU-based Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) Chair for Catalysts.
The ceremony, which was held at the Faculty of Engineering, Building 45, was opened with recitation of some verses form the Holy Qur'an, followed by a speech by Dr Yahia Abu Bakr Alhamed, the chair's supervisor, who pointed out that SABIC chair was among the first scientific chairs to be introduced in KAU and that SABIC was known for its encouragement to scientific research in Saudi universities.
Members of the chair are Prof Lachezar Petrov, former chairman of the Institute of Catalysis, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Dr Yahia A. Alhamed, Prof Abdul Rahim A. Al-Zahrani, Dr Mohammed A. Daous and Dr Ahmed A. Khamis.
Prof Petrov outlined the achievements of the chair, which included the filing of one patent, publication of 24 scientific research studies in a number of international scientific journals and participation in local and international events.
According to Prof Petrov, the chair also held local and international training courses and seminars and contributed in developing the MA programme at the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering.
Dr Abdulrahman S. Al-Ubaid, SABIC Vice-President for Research and Technology, expressed his delight with the chair's achievements, attributing them to arduous efforts made by KAU.
