Library History

  • In 1965, the university library was assigned a temporary location in an apartment in prince Mansour bin Abdulaziz building at the end of Gabil Street that crosses with king Abdulaziz Street.
  • In 1967, the central library was officially inaugurated in the old faculty of Economics and Administration building on surface area of 50 m2 and containing 10228 volumes of which 5000 were a gift to the university from Jeddah local nobilities.
  • In 1968, the central library was moved to what is now the Medical Administration Building with a surface area of 370 m2.
  • In 1971, the library was moved to the new university location along with the university administration, the faculty of arts, the faculty of science and the educational media center on surface area of 2500 m2.
  • In 1977, a library dedicated building was inaugurated on a surface area of 8500 m2.
  • In 1987, an extension of 7000 m2 was added to the existing 8500 m2 to make the total surface area of the library 15500 m2. The extension was officially inaugurated in 1988.
  • Presently, the new and permanent central library building is being built and expected to host the library within the next two years.
