A distinguished professor of Chemistry from Argonne National Laboratory, USA, in a scientific journey to KAU

 A meeting about his collaboration with KAU was headed by the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research in his office

 

As part of a scientific journey to King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Professor Khalil Amine, Distinguished Professor of Chemistry from Argonne National Laboratory, USA, was in a discussion meeting headed by Prof Adnan Zahed, the KAU Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research (VP GSSR), in his office on Wednesday December 25th.

The meeting was attended by professor Abdallah Obaid, the Dean of Faculty of Science, and Dr. Hassan Albishri and Dr Deia Abd El-Hady, from department of Chemistry.

Prof. Khalil Amine is a distinguished Fellow and manager of the Advanced Lithium Battery Technology program at Argonne National Laboratory. Responsible for directing the research and development of advanced materials and battery systems for HEV, PHEV, EV, satellite, military and medical applications. He is a highly cited researcher since 2000 till now in the field of battery technology. He hold 300 international peer reviewed articles published in high impact factor journals such as Nature, Nature material, Nature comm., JACS etc and 140 patent applications.

During the meeting, cooperation in research projects and needs of the team members in these projects were discussed to carry out and transfer knowledge and technology in the fields of advanced materials and battery systems. Prof. Khalil Amine effectively participated to disseminate the role of King Abdulaziz university in the field of battery technology especially lithium ion and lithium air batteries. Also, He is  collaborating with a group of KAU faculties to establish a lab in KAU and has more closer collaboration that involve joint papers and visit staff and students to his labs in USA. In addition, he presented several lectures inside KAU in the field of battery technology and visited several distinguished centers. Also, He is intending next year to collaborate in organizing an international conference in the field of battery technology under the sponsoring of KAU.

The purpose of the visit, according to Prof Zahed, was to discuss aspects of mutual cooperation in academic activities and scientific research in line with KAU's policy of seeking to provide a high-quality education and taking advantage of the capacity and expertise of other local and foreign universities and scientists.
