With a rich experience in information technology and digital transformation, coupled with a strong background in computer science, Al-Aama continues her pursuit in the participation of the technological advancement of her country, Saudi Arabia. She has a successful track record in the public, private, and academic sectors in digital transformation and enablement, leadership, cross-platform IT development, smart cities, state-of-the-art technologies, higher education, strategy formation and implementation, and consultancy.
Al-Aama is the first Saudi Female Professor in the fields of computing and information technology. She published several scientific papers in world-class journals and presented at conferences in several countries around the world, including the US, Australia, France, and the UAE. Her latest are in the fields of artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction. She was also awarded research grants in the US and Saudi.
As Vice Mayor for IT/ CIO in Jeddah, she was the first woman to hold a leadership role in IT in a Saudi governmental agency. She led the team that digitally transformed the Jeddah Municipality services and operations and won the Municipality 20 prestigious awards & accreditations in IT, in the fields of infrastructure, security, systems, smart cities, social media, Apps, and workplace, including Best Arab e-Government from the Arab League, ISO 9001, ISO 27001, and ISO 22301.
She also served as a Technology Advisor to the Saudi Ministry of Economy & Planning, where she provided advisory and consultancy services in the National Digital Transformation and the Ministry’s national transformation initiatives; and a Technology Advisor to the Saudi Minister of Hajj & Umrah (Pilgrimage), where she provided consultation on cybersecurity and the digitization of the Ministry services, and an IT consultant for the private sector and other government agencies.
Al-Aama also held several leadership positions in Academia. She participated, as Vice Dean, in establishing the College of Computing & Information Technology at King Abdulaziz University, from inception until the completion of ABET Accredited curriculum development and an ISO-certified administration. The College today is home to the highest-ranking program in computing in the region. She also headed the Computer Science Department and Information Systems Department for several years. Currently, she is commissioned to lead the effort of establishing a new Cybersecurity Department.
She is also an advisor to the Digital Economy Center, which is a digital & economic consultancy arm for several prestigious bodies and ministries.
