KAU and Al-Imam University Sign Two Cooperation Agreements

In the presence of HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Governor of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, two cooperation agreements were concluded between King Abdulaziz University and Al-Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University on Wednesday 5th April 2010, corresponding to 21st Jumada Al-awwal 1431.

HE Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, KAU President, signed on behalf of KAU, while HE Dr Suliman Aba Al-Khail, Rector of Al-Imam University, signed for the other party.

The first agreement between Prince Naif Chair for Studies of National Unity at Al-Imam University and Prince Khalid Al Faisal`s Chair for Consolidating the Saudi Moderation Approach at KAU is aimed at enforcing the concept of national unity bearing in mind the nature of the political system and social values of the Kingdom. It is also aimed at fostering moderate policies to combat extremism and westernization.

The second agreement aims at stimulating scientific research and academic programmes between the two universities.

The agreements call for establishing scientific and cultural partnerships between the two universities, setting up research databases for the two chairs, holding joint student events, exchanging visiting professors and scientific and cultural consultations and designing an effective joint strategy to foster a sense of loyalty to the Kingdom and to disseminate a culture of moderation among the Saudi citizens.

In statements following the signing ceremony, Prof Tayyeb said the signed agreements were in line with KAU's policy of entering into cultural and scientific partnerships with other universities, and that the concept of national unity and the Saudi moderation approach were closely related.

He also added that the cooperation between the two chairs would help achieve their objectives, pointing out that it was in implementation of our leadership's vision of developing scientific research and establishing joint cooperation between universities in the interests of the community at large.
