Under the patronage of Prof Abdullah Bin Omer Bafil, KAU Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, the distance learning general assembly meeting was held on Wednesday 4th February 2009, corresponding to 9th Safar 1430 at the main Conference and Ceremony Hall.
The meeting was opened with some verses from the Holy Qur'an followed by a speech by Dr Tariq Bin Fouad Hamdi, KAU Dean of Distance Learning.
Dr Hamdi highlighted the concept of distance learning and pointed out that KAU was in the process of setting international standards and implementing the quality programme, maintaining that the distance learning programme aimed at serving the community at large.
In his speech, Prof Bafil pointed out that the assembly-the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia- was aimed at shaping the future of education, adding that the KAU Deanship of Distance Learning was one of the solid pillars of the distance learning programme.
After that, an overview on the distance learning general assembly was given by Mr Bandar Bin Hassan Arabi.
Mr Hassan defined the objectives of the assembly, its activities and its authority, adding that it comprised 4 committees; the Scientific Research Committee, Public Relations and Media Committee, Development Committee and the Assembly's Affairs Committee.
At the end of the meeting, names of elected members were announced. The list included:
