Abstract |

This research reviews an aspect of one of the foundations of the Islamic creed, which concerns prophethoods and the unseen. It aims to study the creed heritage of one of the distinguished figures that have enriched the Islamic library with useful books in various fields, it is sheikh Abdulrahman bin Muhammad Al-Jaziri, may Allah bless his soul. The study includes a short-introduction about him and the school of Ash’arites, to which his belonging is clearly manifested by studying his opinions.
This research is restricted to studying the questions of prophethoods and hearings as stated in his book ‘Clarification of the Creeds’. It includes two chapters: Chapter One: Questions of prophethoods. It includes topics:
Topic One: is related to the Messengers’ mission (may peace be upon them). It deals with the people’s need for sending Messengers, the obligation of believing in the Messengers (of Allah) and its requirements, the ruling on those denying prophethoods. This comprises refuting doubts raised on the prohethood of Adam, peace be upon him. Topic Two: The difference between a prophet and a messenger, with stating the controversy about this issue and its effects. Topic Three: The miracles of the messengers with stating the differences concerning the standard definition of the miracle and the aspect of its denotation of prophethood. It confirms the agreement of Al-Jaziri with the People of the Sunnah in proving prophethood with various evidence, and his agreement with the people of Sunnah in regarding the miracles of the righteous men as part of the Messengers’ miracles. Topic Four: The infallibility of the Prophets. It includes the differences among the Islamic sects as regards the limits of the Prophets’ infallibility. Al-Jaziri is inclined to the view of Ash’arites on this issue. Topic Five: A summary of the biography of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and evidence of his prophethood, the Arabs’ conditions during his mission and the answer to those contesting the miracles of the Noble Quran.
Chapter Two: The questions of hearing. It comprises topics. Topic One: includes proving the torment of the grave and challenging those denying it. Topic Two: It includes proving the creeds of resurrection (after death) and gathering, challenging those denying them with mental and religious evidence. Topic Three: Proving seeing Allah, Glory be to Him, in the Hereafter, with stating the differences among the sects as regards proving it. |
