The University Inaugurates the Events of the Community Responsibility and the Private Sector Gathering: The Reality and the 
 
 

On behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Mishaal bin Majed bin AbdulAziz the governor of Jeddah, His Excellency Doctor AbdulRahman bin Obaid AlYobi the University Director in-charge, inaugurated the meeting of “the Community Responsibility of the University and the Private Sector: the Reality and the Aspiration” on Wednesday 13/07/1437 in King Faisal Center for Conferences. The gathering was attended by the university representative for development Dr. AbdulFattah bin Sulaiman Mashat, university representatives, college deans, teaching staff members and a large number of university, private sector and charitable societies affiliates. In this occasion His Excellency the university representative Dr. AbdulFattah bin Sulaiman Mashat announced that this was the first meeting organized by the university in commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of the university establishment which is part of the university founder’s vision and mission.

On his part His Excellency Dr. Towfiq bin Abdul Mohsin AlKhayal Dean of Community Service and Continuing Education mentioned that the Deanship established a community responsibility unit aiming to spread awareness and instill this concept through courses, lectures and publications. His Excellency explained that the gathering included presentation of community initiatives, discussion circles and workshops in addition to the accompanying exhibition. The secretary of the Committee of the University Director prize for distinction in the service of the community, representative of community services deanship and continuing education for development and the general superintendant of community responsibility department in the university Dr. Hamed bin AbdulRaouf Saleh that those who have won the mentioned prizes are honored during the gathering which included four branches:

  1. The best community work presented by colleges/institutes/ centers and scientific chairs, won in half by College of Dentistry and College of Medicine.
  2. The best community work presented by members of teaching staff, won by Dr. Wagdi Ahmed Wazan
  3. The best community work presented by the administrators and technicians won by Abdullah Basalam.
  4. The best communal work presented by students (male and female) won in half by the student Hiba Abdullah AlWafi and the student Israa Faisal BaGais.

Tow discussion circles were also held under the title: the role of universities in enhancing the community responsibility headed by Dr. Hamed bin AbulRaouf Saleh in participation with the dean of  Economy & Administration college Dr. Ayman bin Saleh Fadil and social science professor  Dr. Obaid Al Muzfer. The discussion was about the definition of university community responsibility and the difference between it and voluntary works. Also the discussion covered the accreditation of study courses within the academic plan in order to spread awareness among students with regard to the importance of community work especially that the role of universities is no longer limited to education and academic research but also community services has become one of the main responsibilities of the university. Some experiences of college of Economy and Administration were reviewed in this context.

The second discussion circle was titled: the role of banks in community service. It was headed by dean of community service and continuing education Dr. Twofiq bin Abdul Muhsin AlKhayal with the participation of Dr. Fahad AlEtani from college of Economy and Administration and Dr. Fahd AlOlayan from AlJazira Bank and Mr. Fahad AlAnazi of Riyad Bank. The speeches tackled the importance of national banks contribution in support of community works; also reviewed was some of the contributions of Al-Jazira and Riyad banks contribution in the field of community responsibility. Also, some outstanding initiatives in community responsibility were presented in the gathering such as the experience of the college of Economy and Administration, Anamel voluntary initiative in addition to Ihsan initiatives for old people care as well as scientific endowment initiatives in the founder’s university and the initiatives of community services unit in community service and continuing education deanship.

Dr, Hamed added that the meeting included an accompanying exhibition with the participation of a number of sectors from inside and outside the university such as charity societie , Majed Development society, Khairukum and Ihsan, Kadiroon and home care etc.; three workshops were held: 1- strategic planning in community responsibility presented by Dr. Ibrahim Bedaiwi the general Superintendant of Strategic Planning Dept. in the university 2- the private sector and the community responsibility presented by Dr. Najah Salama the representative of college of law, 3- designing specific initiatives in community responsibility by Dr.  Kamal AbdAlAl, manager of community responsibility dept. in SEDCO Company.
