HISTORY EPS





   The department is an applied division of the Faculty of Earth Sciences. It was established in 1987 with the merger of the department of Petroleum Geology and the department of Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, and Paleontology (both established in 1978).

The department encompasses the general subject areas of paleontology, sedimentalogy, mineralogy and petrology of sedimentary rock, and petroleum geology. It focuses on the study of exploration and development techniques of petroleum and natural resources in the sedimentary cover of Saudi Arabia. It also focuses on the study of sedimentary rocks and their depositional environments and the associated different kinds of fossils.

In addition to offering its own undergraduate and graduate programs, the department is also responsible for teaching essential courses for other faculty departments.
