Chemistry department

 

Overview:
    The Chemistry Department was founded in 1393/1394 AH, to be one of the biggest departments at the Faculty of Science. Its services cover a large amount of students inside and outside the Faculty. The Department is equipped as well with several well-structured laboratories which can fulfill both the educational and research requirements. Some of these laboratories are of a special structure as equipped with advanced devices for chemical analysis, which serve as well the other departments at the Faculty along with the other faculties at the KAU and the other sectors outside the University.

     So as to make use of such lab capabilities and as well the teaching staff's scientific experiences, the Chemistry Department has been precedently concerned with encouraging scientific research and initiating postgraduate  

    studies to grant the degree of master of science since 1398 AH. This master program was developed to both thesis- or project-concentrated, certainly with the regular academic courses. A doctoral program was also developed in this Department to be only thesis-concentrated, certainly with the regular academic courses in 1425/1426 AH. The Department lastly is concerned with such modern techniques as the computers in teaching and the Internet in communicating with the given students.

 
Goals:

  1. Graduating national scientifically qualified cadres who are necessary for the service of the community and the plans and programs of development, education and industry within the Kingdom. 
  2.       Conducting academic and empirical scientific research.
  3.     Contributing at the scientifically cultural awareness via the academic conferences and sessions.
  4.     Providing the technical services in field of chemistry to both public and private sectors.
  5.     Encouraging the attempts of Arabicization, composition, publication and translation.

 Academic Degree Granted:

  1.     Degree of bachelor

  2.     Degree of thesis-concentrated master, along with regular courses

  3.     Degree of project-concentrated master, along with regular courses

  4.     Degree of thesis-concentrated doctorate, along with regular courses.
