5th edition of KAU Grand Qur'an Memorization Contest inaugurated

The 5th edition of King Abdulaziz University Qur'an Memorization Contest organized by the Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Education, was inaugurated by Prof Abdelmonem Alhayani, Dean of Students' Affairs, on Sunday January 27th at King Faisal Convention Centre.

As many as 741 contesters (male and female reciters and memorizers) will take part in the three-day event., which is patronized by Jeddah Governor, HRH Prince Mishal ibn Majed.

The contest is aimed to inspire and motivate the students to take interest to learn, memorize and recite the Qur'an, said Prof Alhayani.

He also appreciated the great attention given by Prince Mishaal to the contest, and the unstinting support of the acting KAU President, Pro Abdurrahman Alyoubi, the KAU Vice President, Prof Abdullah Mohorji.

 According to Dr Salah S. Ba Othman, Head of the Department of Islamic Studies, the contest has a number categories. The first is memorization of the entire Holy Quran i.e. 30 Juz (a juz is one of the parts of the Holy Qur’an which is divided into 30 parts of equal length for the purpose of recitation), the second category is memorization of 20 Juz, the third is memorization of the first or last 10 Juz.
