Maather Al-Rawi is a professor at King Abdulazziz University, the Department of Modern Languages and Literature, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from Department of Linguistics and Phonetics, the School of Modern Languages, University of Leeds, Leeds, UK and a MA in Linguistics from the same university.

Research Interests

Her major research interests have been in analysing the syntax of Semitic languages and in describing the syntactic features of the English varieties.

Scientific interests

Maather Alrawi is a Professor of Linguistics at King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. She is a member of the Linguistic Society of America (LSA) and the Linguistic Association of Great Britain (LAGB), and the Societas Linguistica Europaea (SLE). She received her PhD from the University of Leeds; the topic of her thesis is “The structure of determiner phrases in Standard Arabic” in 2004. She published several articles on Arabic syntax of both Standard and non-standard verities. Her research interest is the syntax of Arabic (Semitic) and its interfaces with form (morphology-phonology) and meaning (semantics), Minimalist Program, and Distributed Morphology. She is also interested in comparative syntax, World Englishes, Error Analysis, Critical Discourse Analysis, and gender and semiotic studies.
