Lana Al-Abbasi, a student from the Faculty of Science at King Abdulaziz University, has been awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship to pursue her studies at the University of Oxford in 2025. Only two seats were allocated to Saudi students out of more than 100 worldwide. The Rhodes Scholarship, the oldest of its kind with over 120 years of history, has been awarded to many distinguished global figures. Al-Abbasi has built an impressive research record that includes five scientific publications, international participation at the ISEF, and winning Best Scientific Paper at the university’s 15th Scientific Forum. She also founded the ‘Falak’ Research Program, the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia to support space research. She aspires to continue her doctoral studies in astrophysics and contribute to raising awareness of the importance of fundamental sciences, in alignment with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
