King Abdulaziz University, through its Health Promotion Center and in collaboration with the Faculty of Medical Rehabilitation Sciences and the Faculty of Human Sciences and Design, hosted a vibrant community event under the theme “Kibaruna… Value and Loyalty” to commemorate the International Day of Older Persons. The event took place on Wednesday, October 8, at the King Fahd Public Library.

Organized with the participation of Club 6090, the Kibaruna Community Initiative aimed to reaffirm the vital role of senior citizens in society, emphasizing the importance of honoring their lifelong contributions and ensuring their well-being. The gathering drew a distinguished audience of seniors, their families, university students, and representatives from community organizations.

The event featured a series of interactive and wellness-focused stations designed to raise awareness about senior health and quality of life. Key highlights included preventive health screenings, such as blood pressure, glucose, and balance checks—alongside a smart technology booth that introduced attendees to modern digital applications. A dedicated intergenerational dialogue corner fostered meaningful communication between generations and encouraged the sharing of life experiences.

Additional sections showcased heritage exhibits, creative works, and talents of participating seniors, all presented in an atmosphere enriched by traditional hospitality and commemorative photo sessions.

The initiative saw strong volunteer engagement from students across various university faculties, with support from the Hattan Volunteer Team. Volunteers played a key role in organizing the event and providing hands-on support to guests, reflecting the university’s commitment to nurturing a culture of empathy, service, and respect among younger generations.

A highlight of the program was the inspiring panel “Golden Stories”, where older individuals shared personal experiences and reflections. The event concluded with a symbolic recognition ceremony to honor their contributions.

Organizers emphasized that the Kibaruna Community Initiative is part of the university’s broader Health-Promoting University programs and reflects its ongoing efforts to build a culture of appreciation, dignity, and strong intergenerational connections. The initiative aligns closely with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to empower seniors and enhance their quality of life.
