Seminar on Impact of International Financial Crisis Held

 


Under the patronage of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, HH Prince Dr Khalid F. Turki Al-Saud, Deputy Commander of the National Guard in the western region, has inaugurated on Sunday 21st March 2010, corresponding to 5th Rabi' Al-Thani 1431 a seminar on the impact of the current international financial crisis on national economics to be held by the KAU Faculty of Economics and Administration at the KAU main Ceremonial and Conference Center.

An exhibition entitled "The Kingdom of Humanity and the King of Peace" was also inaugurated.

Prof Hossam Al-Angari, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administration, said the seminar was held in response to an invitation extended to KAU by HRH Prince Mutaib bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Assistant Deputy Commander of the National Guard for Military Affairs and deputy head of the festival's supreme committee, to contribute to the cultural activities of the 25th Janadriyah Festival to be staged under the auspices of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

He also added that the seminar was aimed at keeping the Arab and Gulf countries abreast with the latest international economic developments, and discussing the financial, geopolitical and legal effects of the current international financial crisis on the Arab national economies.

HE Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, KAU President, said he was extremely happy that KAU had been chosen to host the event.

Prince Khalid thanked KAU for hosting the event, adding that the philosophy behind organizing the seminar at KAU was to get universities involved in the cultural activities of the Janadriyah Festival.

He also hoped that the seminar would come up with useful recommendations.

The seminar will consist of two sessions; the first will deal with issues pertinent to the nature and causes of the global financial crisis and its financial, political, geographical and legal impact; the second will discuss issues relating to the impact of the global financial crisis on national economies, financial sector, foreign trade, foreign investment, foreign exchange market and sovereign funds and the management of the financial crisis and its impact on the Gulf countries.

• Dr Youssef Al-Saadoun, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic and Cultural Affairs.

• Mr Abdullah A. Zainal, Saudi Minister of Commerce and Industry.

• Dr Jasim Al-Saadoun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Shal Company for Investment.

• Prof Adnan A. Soofi, Representative of SEDCO in Saudi Arabia.

• Dr Ismail Serajeldin, former Vice President of the World Bank (WB).

• Dr Majid Al-Muneef, Member of Majlis Al Shura.

• Dr Abdulaziz Al-Dakhel, Director of the Consulting Center for Finance & Investment (CCFI).

• Dr Hassan O. Balkhi, former teaching member of staff of the Department of Economics, KAU Faculty of Economics and Administration.

• Dr Sami I. Al-Suwalim, Deputy Director of the Islamic Institute for Research and Training, Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

•  Dr Mohammed S. Saban, Advisor to the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and chief negotiator at the meetings of the Copenhagen Climate Summit.

• Dr Mohammed O. Shabra, Recipient of King Faisal International Prize for Islamic Studies and advisor to the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).
