    An active member of the leading team responsible of establishing the genomic medicine unit (GMU) at King Fahad medical research center and also the director of the diagnostic molecular section in this unit until now. This unit provides diagnostic services for patients suffering from genetic disorders. It was the base used to establish center of excellence in genomic medicine later in 2006.

  • Over the years and since I came back from my scholarship from UK in December 1998, I was continuously involved in administration starting as head of departments and moving through different positions as mentioned above and in recent years as dean for more than one college.
  • I was involved heavily in curriculum developments and I am now the head of the curriculum committee at both faculty of applied medical sciences and faculty of medical rehabilitation. I was directly responsible of establishing and reviewing the curriculum of several BSc programs in both colleges including:

    • Clinical nutrition
    • Nursing
    • Diagnostic imaging
    • Physiotherapy
    • Occupational therapy
    • Speech pathology & Audiology
    • Respiratory therapy

  • I was member of several committees in the university the most important of all are:

  • I was the head of the committees responsible about accreditation of all programs in the faculty of applied medical sciences. We have successfully accredited the medical laboratory program by the institute of biomedical sciences (IBMS) from UK. We have recently succeeded in getting the international accreditation for clinical nutrition, physiotherapy and diagnostic radiology programs. These were accredited by the Accreditation Agency in Health and Social Sciences (AHPGS) from Germany.
  • Over the years in the university, I have attended conferences and workshops and training programs in my specialty as molecular hematologist or as administrator in building leaders and leadership. These activities were inside the university and outside the university both locally inside Saudi Arabia and in different international locations.

  • Member of the team responsible of developing the genomic medicine unit (GMU) lab at king Fahad Medical research center. GMU is now serving patients of king Abdulaziz university hospital and other near by hospitals. Several specialized laboratory investigations are performed including chromosomal analysis and several molecular testing for various diseases such as qualitative and quantitative analysis of gene fusions in leukemia and detection of mutations causing thrombophilia and other diseases. We also provide diagnostic of common genetic disorders, cancer diagnostics and follow up of effect of treatment on patient’s genes. I am responsible of signing off reports for patients for the diagnostic services performed at this unit and at center of innovation in personalized medicine.
  • Member of the team responsible of establishing Center of Excellence in Genomic Medicine Research. This center is supported by ministry of higher education and is considered one of a kind in kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  • During PhD research, I have gained experiences in several molecular techniques including different forms of PCR, gel electrophoresis, restriction enzyme analysis, primer design, several mutation detection methods, direct manual and automated DNA sequencing, family studies and cell transfection analysis.
  • Several other experiences have been gained during research and diagnostic work in molecular and hematology lab such as real time PCR and some of its applications and basic hematology lab analysis such as using cell counters, coagulation tests, and others.
  • Recently, I have been involved in setting up research and diagnostic tests using micro array technology and I have received special training on using infinity analyzer produced by Autogenomic. This is beside new addition of equipment to our lab such as affymetrix system and Agelant system as well ad next generation sequencers.
  • I am now the director of the diagnostic medical laboratory initiative funded by the government as part of the reform of 2020 and the vision of 2030 of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
