History EEG


   The Engineering Geology Department was established in 1974 as one of the Faculty of Earth Sciences departments. The Environmental Geology option was approved and added to the department in 2001. Then the name of the department was changed into the Engineering and Environmental Geology Department.

 

   The Department is concerned with the study of the physical and mechanical properties of rocks and soils, engineering geological  mapping,  construction materials and site investigations in the Engineering Geology option. In the environmental  Geology option, the Department is concerned with the geological and man-made hazards, pollution of  earth material, and geologic aspects of waste  disposal.

The Department is interested in the application of geology to mining and civil engineering works and environmental aspects. It aims to graduate engineering geology or environmental geology professionals capable of performing site investigations and evaluating potential engineering  or natural hazards that may face nature or engineering constructions.
