EHG History and Background

  
 

    Hydrogeology department was established in 1970 as an independent department in the center of Applied Geology for graduate studies offering Higher Diploma, M.Sc, and Ph. D. Degrees. B. Sc. Degree started after the centre joined King Abdulaziz University in 1975 to become the Institute of Applied Geology and then, the Faculty of Earth Sciences.

The department has 9 academic staff and three support staff. The education plan of the Department was originally set up to provide students with the latest developments in the field of hydrogeology. New areas of interests including isotopes in hydrogeology, groundwater pollution and surface and groundwater modeling were recently introduced.

The department includes up to date laboratories (Hydrogeology lab, Hydrochemistry lab, and Personal computer lab) and field equipments.

Department is very active in conducting research and indulged with different research subjects related to hydrogeology including evaluation of groundwater resources in the Arabian shield and Arabian shelf, groundwater quality and usability, applications of environmental isotopes in hydrology, groundwater pollution, groundwater resources management, modeling of groundwater systems, applications of GIS in hydrogeology, and environmental impact on surface runoff and groundwater.
