Origins:

The Sociology Department was established in the academic year 1394-1395 H.  The MA program was introduced in 1401 H.  The very first student to get an MA from the department graduated in 1406 H.  The PhD program was initiated in 1423 H.; and the first PhD class was enrolled in 1424 H.  

 


 

Aims:

 

  1. Preparing students for acquiring knowledge in the various specializations of sociology, so as to enable them to work in various fields including: sociological research, social work in educational and health institutions, care, and social service.

  2. Enabling students to acquire the basic scientific research skills, which are required for studying social issues and problems.

  3. Emphasizing practical training, as it enables students to acquire field experience in practicing social service.

  4. Focusing on the main social issues of the Saudi society, in general; and Jeddah Governorate, in particular.

  5. Cooperating with research centers and agencies in social and security fields; and organizing academic training courses for workers in these fields.

Labs:

 

A computer lab for faculty members, and MA and PhD students is currently being set up.  This lab will facilitate the analysis of data and the extraction of results by means of specialized statistical programs.  It will also be used for training students to conduct statistical analyses by utilizing SPSS.
