Course Portfolio |

This page describes the course portfolio requirements and procedures to have a complete file. At KAAU it is mandatory that a course file exists for each course taught at the university. The course portfolio should follow the general guidelines listed below. These guidelines are based on international standards which are used by most universities and accrediting agencies, and they are part of the standards for the self assessment at KAAU. |

Checklist
A checklist should be prepared by the college committee assigned to follow-up the course portfolio for their academic departments. The checklist is a reminder to place material into the portfolio and to let others know what information is placed in the course portfolio.
Title Page
The title page should contain the name and number of the course, date, name of the department and college.
Course Syllabus
· Instructor and Course Information: ¨ Name of the instructor, his office location, E-mail and office hours. It is also recommended to mention some of the instructor’s profile. To enhance the personal nature of the course, a welcome letter to the student should be included. This can help to establish a dialogic tone for the course. ¨ Course name and number. List all prerequisites and requirements in order to enroll for the course. Course meeting times, places, and course website address.
· Course Description ¨ Provide an overview of the course that includes an explanation of how the course will be conducted. ¨ Describe instructor’s teaching methodology that will be used in covering the material of the course.
· Course Objectives ¨ Include a concrete statement of what the student will know and be able to do as the result of learning. Also, include a statement on how they will be expected to demonstrate their learning.
· Learning Resources ¨ List all of the materials needed for the course and where to obtain them (i.e., text books, reading material, lab guide, and websites). ¨ If the course involves a computer, list usage and software needed. ¨ If lab work is involved, list lab location, hours, safety precautions and other instructions for use.
· Course Requirements and Grading ¨ Give a clear rationale and policy on grading that takes into account the student’s mastery of knowledge or skills. This includes what the course assignments will be and how much they will be worth. ¨ Expectations from students: attitudes, involvement, behaviors, skills, and ethics. ¨ Student responsibilities to the course. ¨ Expectations for each assignment and project. ¨ Important rules of academic conduct. ¨ Lab plan and assignments, if it applies.
· Detailed Course Schedule ¨ Indicate topics and activities planned for each class or lab session, assignments and due dates.
Course Related MaterialsThis section should contain all the materials considered essential to teaching the course. This includes: · Quizzes, lab quizzes, mid-terms, final exams and provide their solution set. · Paper or transparency copies of the lecture notes (kept organized and in order). If there are additional handouts include them. (optional) · Most recent copy of the Practical Session Manual (if one exists). · Handouts for project/term paper assignments.
Examples of the Extent of Student LearningExamples of student work are an important part of the course portfolio. Include good, average, and poor examples.
· Scores on standardized or other tests, before and after instruction. · Students' lab books or other workbooks. · Students' papers, essays, and other creative work. · Graded work, i.e. exams, homework, quizzes. · Examples of your written feedback of student’s work. (optional)
Instructor Reflections on the Course (optional)
· Instructor feedback and reflections. · Propose future improvement and enhancement. · Evaluate student competency and reflect on their Course Evaluation for improvements to the course. · Conceptual map of relationships among the content, objective, and assessment. · Recent trends and new approaches to teach the course. |
