Two eminent academics visit KAU

 
 
 

Justin Jansen, Professor of Corporate Entrepreneurship Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), Erasmus University Rotterdam, and Frank Geels, Professor of System Innovation and Sustainability at the Sustainable Consumption Institute, Unniversity of Manchester, UK, are currently visiting King Abdulaziz University (KAU) within a policy of attracting highly-cited academics from renowned international educational institutions with a view to promoting scientific research.

The two internationally famous scholars, who are scheduled to give lectures to share his expertise with graduate students and faculty, were received on Sunday, April 20th, by Prof Adnan Zahed, KAU Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.

The meeting was attended by Dr Mohammed I. Al-Habib, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administration for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, and Dr Abdullah Basahl, of the Department of Information Systems.

Professor Jansen’s research on strategic leadership, organizational learning and absorptive capacity, organizational ambidexterity and corporate entrepreneurship has been published in various academic journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Leadership Quarterly, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, and Strategic Management Journal . Moreover, his research has received recognition throughout the field and several accolades including the ERIM best paper award, the ERIM best dissertation award, and the SAP best strategy paper. He is a recipient of the Erasmus Research Fellowship. Professor Jansen is currently an associate editor of the Journal of Management Studies and serves on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review and the Strategic Management Journal.

Frank Geels is a Professor of System Innovation and Sustainability at the Sustainable Consumption Institute, which is an inter-departmental institute at the University of Manchester. Working in the field of innovation studies, Geels practices an inter-disciplinary style, which makes crossovers between evolutionary economics, Science and Technology Studies, neo-institutional theory, sociology, history of technology, and cultural studies. Geels is particularly well-known for this conceptual work on the Multi-Level Perspective (MLP) and Strategic Niche Management (SNM), which respectively address socio-technical transitions and radical innovations.

According to Prof Zahed, the meeting served to identify areas of mutual cooperation in scientific research in line with KAU's policy of seeking to provide a high-quality education and taking advantage of the capacity and expertise of other local and foreign universities and scientists.
