A new public library was opened in Jeddah on Wednesday April 2nd by Makkah Governor, Prince Mishaal ibn Abdullah ibn Abdulaziz.

Built over an area of 17,000-square-meter within the main Campus of King Abdulaziz University (KAU) in Jeddah, King Fahd Public Library houses a diverse collection of books and reference material classified into three sections to meet the needs and wants of a wide range of readership. Spaces have been set apart for youths, children and women.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dr Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja, Minister of Culture and Information, Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, KAU President, in addition to an number of high-ranking KAU executives and a host of intellectuals and government officials.

In his speech, Prof Tayyeb seized the opportunity to thank Prince Mishaal for patronizing the official opening of the new facility, which he described as a cultural and intellectual landmark.

He also expressed his deep gratitude to HRH Prince Salman ibn Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, for his overwhelming support to the new library.

Volunteers along with donors who have generously contributed to the establishment of the library were also honoured by Prince Mishaal.
