Sultan Bin Abdulaziz National Campaign for the Prevention of Osteoporosis held its first press conference on Sunday February 5th, 2012 at the Senate Hall.
The event was graced with the presence of KAU President, HE Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, and KAU Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Prof Adnan Zahed.
Addressing the audience, Prof Tayyeb said the press conference marked the beginning of the four-year campaign, which was aimed at raising awareness of the disease among all sectors of the Saudi population.
According to him, the campaign is fully funded by Saudi private sector bodies, paying SR3 million.
He also urged media organizations to join the campaign.
In his speech, Prof Zahed stressed the importance of supporting the campaign, calling all sectors to take part.
Dr Mohammed S. Al-Aradawi, Director of the Centre of Excellence for Osteoporosis Research, said the campaign was being launched with the express purpose of reducing the incidence of the disease, adding that the campaign's programme would consist of a scientific conference and an exhibition.
Participants from a number of international universities and scientific societies will be involved, according to him.
