A distinguished professor of Computer Networking from North Carolina State University, USA in a scientific journey to KAU

 

As part of a scientific journey to King Abdulaziz University (KAU), Professor George Rouskas, Distinguished Professor of Computer Networking from North Carolina State University, USA, was in a discussion meeting headed by Prof Adnan Zahed, the KAU Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research (VP GSSR), in his office on Sunday May 26th.
 
The meeting was attended Dr. Iyad Kafrtib, from the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, and Dr. Ibrahim Albidawi, the VP GSSR office representative to the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.
 
Professor Rouskas received the 2004 ALCOA Foundation Engineering Research Achievement Award, and the 2003 NCSU Alumni Outstanding Research Award.

He is a recipient of a1997 NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award and of the 1994 Graduate Research Assistant Award from the College of Computing, Georgia Tech.

He has three papers that received Best Paper Awards at the 1998 SPIE conference on All-Optical Networking, at the 2006 CSNDSP conference, and at the 2007 IEEE/IFIP EVGM workshop.

He also received teaching awards, including his induction in the NCSU Academy of Outstanding Teachers in 2004, and the Outstanding New Teacher Award he received from the Department of Computer Science in 1995.

Professor Rouskas serves as the Secretary of the IEEE Optical Networking Technical Committee (ONTC) in 2012-13, and he served as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for the Communications Society in 2010-2011.

He founded and serves as co-editor-in-chief of Optical Switching and Networking (OSN).
 
During the meeting, cooperation in research projects and needs of the team members in these projects were discussed to carry out and transfer knowledge and technology in the fields of Computer Networking. Also, the honourable guest presented two scientific lectures during his visit to KAU.

He also visited the Deanship of IT and observing the operational work, servers, and KAU network, and Participate in providing advice to improve the teaching of Computer Networking courses in the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.
 
 
The purpose of the visit, according to Prof Zahed, was to discuss aspects of mutual cooperation in academic activities and scientific research in line with KAU's policy of seeking to provide a high-quality education and taking advantage of the capacity and expertise of other local and foreign universities and scientists.
