Training at Faculty of Earth Sciences

The Faculty of Earth Sciences understands the need to train students in their field of specialization to a greater extent, especially the considering it to be geological field. The Faculty provides the students facility to exchange views and practical information with real time employers and research scholars to benefit from their expertise and be fruitful to their country in future

Upon realizing the importance of practical exposure and real time training, the Training unit was established for the first time on 07/11/1416 AH. Further to this, an administrative directive 2567/PZ was issued to make training as part of the main course.

The basic fundamentals of the courses at the Earth Sciences Faculty are based on the core subjects of Maths, Physics, Chemistry and other subjects that are closely associated with the Earth Sciences field. The courses are designed in way to give maximum practical exposure to the students in Geology by identifying natural resources, and the source of water and its constituents and then to use these resources economically to protect the environment.

The Field trips organized for the students help them in a better understanding of the theory that they learn in the classrooms and the practical they do in the labs. The Arabian Peninsula provides the students with lot of opportunities to explore its vast fields for research and information. To assist such trips, the Faculty has a good fleet of SUV’s, power generators, tents and medicals aids.

All the departments in the Faculty coordinate with the training unit to assist their students to gain more practical exposure to the subject. But the training is limited to those students who satisfy the specialized subjects criteria and complete the predefined set of courses. The students are usually sent for training at various big organizations like the Petroleum ministry, Saudi ARAMCO, etc. At the end of their training the students are asked to submit a report on their training.

Tasks of the Unit

1 - Oversee a specialized training program for college students at the government and corporate bodies

2 - Cooperation with authorities and public and private institutions to provide training opportunities for college students

3 – Coordinate with departments to provide specialized training programs to students outside the college

4 – Receive the training report from the students and send it to their concerned department

5 – Work to solve the obstacles faced by the student during his training trained program
6 -
To establish a database of student trainees and their training destinations

Training Objectives

The Faculty aims in developing the practical skills of the students by conducting such training camps. It also provides the students to use their talent in the areas of their specialization and help them in handling the jobs at their own capacity. The post training report submitted by the students helps them in understanding the writing process in real time and might help them when they join their specialized job

Duration and Training Requirements

The student usually spends anywhere between four to six weeks for his training depending upon his area of specialization. The time duration is set keeping in focus the exposure the student gets at his place of training. The students are asked to submit a proposed report before joining a training camp detailing the objective of the training, its outcome and a brief abstract about the work they intend to do, to the heads of the department. Upon the department’s approval, the students are sent for training

Department wise training areas for the students

1 – Department of Mineral Rocks and Resources

The students are provided with theoretical and practical knowledge of the mines and their exploration in economically using them.

3 – Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources

Report Submission Process

The training process for the students is conducted to give exposure to the practical part of their specialization, especially what the students learn in their theoretical part. Once the student winds up his training, he is liable to submit a brief report of his training to the Faculty, which follows the set guidelines mentioned below

A – General Instructions

1 – Each student must draft his own report I his own words

2 – Must be typed on an A4 paper in English or Arabic

3 – Must consider the specification given by the departments for his report writhing

B- Content of the Report

1 – The cover page: Must have Student’s name, his ID number, specialization and the training period

2 – Clear index with Headings and sub headings

3 - Introduction: containing a brief description of the institution that trains the student and the nature and quality of training done by the student

4 - Body of the report: It must contain the actual details of the training undertaken

5 - Conclusion: It must contain a summary of the skills and experience gained by the students during the training period

6 - Bibliography: List all the references used by the student

7 - Supplements: This must includes all information from the results and explanatory maps and additional data used for the report
