Faculty of Maritime Studies joins AIMU

Adding another feather to its cap, the Faculty of Maritime Studies has formally joined the International Association of Maritime Universities (AIMU).

The membership protocol was signed Sunday by Acting KAU President, Processor Abdurrahman Alyoubi.

Membership was granted after a site visit by an AIMU team to verify information compiled in the faculty's database, view the environment and facilities and meet with administrators, faculty members and students.

IAMU was founded by seven universities representing the five continents of the world (Representative Universities) in November, 1999, with a shared recognition of significance of maritime education and training in the rapid globalisation of the international shipping arena. It principal activities include promoting the cooperation of maritime universities across the world, maintaining communication and exchange between members, interested maritime industry players and international organisations, representing IAMU to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), executing research activities in MET and relevant fields and disseminating the best MET practices, research outcomes and innovations among members through publications, newsletters and conferences.
