On Behalf of HE the Minister of Higher Education, HE Prof Usamah Bin Sadiq Tayeb, King Abdulaziz University President, chaired the first KAU Senate meeting in the academic year 1429-1430 on Tuesday 6th Zul Qaeda 1429 at the Supreme Administration Buildings. The meeting convened at 13.00 p.m.
Prof Tayeb opened the meeting with thanking Almighty God and praising His Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). He then welcomed Dr Khalil Bin Muslih Al Thagafi, Dean of the Boys' Faculty of Medical Sciences, Dr Saud Bin Abdulaziz Kutb, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in Rabigh, Dr Sami Bin Mohamed Awwad Halawni, Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Information technology and Dr Hamid Bin Saeed Ali Habib, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in Rabigh, who recently joined the KAU Senate.
The meeting was also attended by:
• Dr Mohamed Bin Abdulaziz Al Salih, Secretary General of the Postgraduate Education Council.
• Prof Abdul Rahman Alyoobi, KAU Vice President.
• Prof Abdullah Bin Omer Bafil, KAU Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research.

After considering the meeting's agenda, the following decisions were made:
1. Approving the appointment of a number of assistant professors, lecturers and teaching assistants in various faculties.
2. Approving some internal and external scholarships for teaching assistants and lecturers in some faculties.
3. Putting forward a recommendation to the Higher Education Council to approve the establishment of a social research center at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
4. Putting forward a recommendation to the Higher Education Council to approve the establishment of a department of genetic diseases at the Faculty of Medicine.
5. Approving the advanced academic plan of the bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Sciences.
6. Approving the advanced academic plan of the bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Earth Sciences.
7. Approving the advanced academic plan of the bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Marine Sciences.
8. Putting forward a recommendation to the Higher Education Council to approve the reconstruction of the medical sciences faculties in Jeddah.
9. Putting forward a recommendation to the Higher Education Council to approve the establishment of an administrative information department at the Faculty of Economics and Administration.
10. Putting forward a recommendation to the Higher Education Council to approve the establishment of a medical services and hospitals management department at the Faculty of Economics and Administration.
11. Approving a Master's programme in law and professional practice, which adopts the courses and research project at the Department Human Resources and Administrative Information Systems, Faculty of Economics and Administration?
12. Approving sending Dr Jamal Bin Abdul Muhsin, Faculty of Environmental Designs, on a forty-day academic mission to the University of Manchester, UK, as from 1st Zul Qaeda 1429.
13. Approving granting Dr Fardoos Bint Maroof Bukhari, Faculty of Sciences, a one-year paid leave for academic purposes.
14. Approving the reconstruction of the Deanship of Community Service and Continuing Education Council.
15. Approving the assigning of an academic scholarship dedicated for breast cancer research sponsored by Sheikh Mohamed Bin Hussein Alamoudi.
16. Awarding the following 6 postgraduate students PhD degrees in the specialties specified below:
