A strategic alliance between King Abdulaziz University and Huawei on digital transformation and the smart campus

 
 

King Abdulaziz University (KAU) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei to accelerate the development of its Smart Campus concept and implement innovative applications within the university. 


The latest memorandum was signed virtually in the presence of His Excellency Prof. Abdulrahman Al-Youbi, President of King Abdulaziz University, Prof.  Abdulmonem Al-Hayani, VP of King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Wajdi Aljedaibi, Dean of IT at King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Hani Choudhry, Director of the Center for Alignment of Educational Outcomes with Labour Market at KAU as well as Terry He, CEO of Huawei Tech Investment Saudi Arabia, David Tao, President of Huawei Enterprise Business Group in Saudi Arabia, and Faisal Ayad Alotaibi, HR Director at Huawei Tech Investment Saudi Arabia.


The new memorandum of understanding identifies the framework of the strategic partnership between KAU and Huawei by introducing a plan for digital transformation, and applying the advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and big data, contributing to rendering the campus as a smart, safer, and more supportive of smart education, along with raising the spending efficiency and improving the quality of digital education in line with the ambitious Saudi vision 2030.


H.E. Prof. Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Youbi, President of King Abdulaziz University, said: “Signing this memorandum with Huawei supports our aspiration to be at the forefront of academic excellence and innovation. Deepening our cooperation with leading international companies and global technology pioneer like Huawei will help us to do that, and to leverage advanced technologies to harness them in the fields of education and research.”


In addition, Prof. Dr. Abdulmonem Al-Hayani, VP of King Abdulaziz University, highlighted that this cooperation is part of the University’s strategic plan, as one of its key pillars is digital transformation and recognizing the importance of using innovative methods in learning. This will contribute to transforming the campus into a smart, more secure one, resulting in a positive impact on education for graduates and staff. 


Terry He, CEO of Huawei Tech Investment Saudi Arabia, added: “One of the constants within society today is the importance of young people and ensuring the continued development of human capital. KAU has long recognized this, and that technology can greatly support this mission by bringing knowledge closer, making resource sharing easier, and enriching the learning experience. Through this MoU, we look forward to collaborating with KAU to support both its campus infrastructure and its academic offerings in the years ahead.
