On behalf of HRH Prince Mishal bin Majed bin Abdulaziz, governor of Jeddah, HE Prof. Abdulrahman Al Youbi KAU President opened "The Social Responsibility and the Private Sector Forum: Reality and Hope" Events on Wednesday 20 April 2016 at King Faysal Conference Center. The opening was attended by HE Prof. Abdulfatah Mashat, KAU Vice-president for Development, KAU vice-presidents, Faculties' deans and faculty members as well as a considerable audience from the private sector and charity organizations' officials. On this occasion HE Prof. Mashat delivered a speech in which he declared this forum as the first of its kind organized by KAU as part of its commemoration of its 50th anniversary as it falls within KAU mission and vision statements.
From his part, Prof. Tawfiq al Khayal, Deans of Community Service and continuing Education Deanship indicated that his deanship created a unit for the social responsibility that aims at spreading people awareness of about such concept through seminars, workshops and conferences as well as printed materials. He also indicated that the forum included presentations of social initiatives, discussion circles in addition to the accompanying exhibition. Prof. Hamid Salih General Secretary of KAU President Award for Excellence in Social Service and General Supervisor of the Social Responsibility Management at KAU indicated that winners of the award have been honored during the forum. The award included four branches:
1. The best social service work submitted by faculties/institutes/centers and research chairs awarded to both the faculty of dentistry and the faculty of medicine.
2. The best social serbic work submitted by faculty members awarded to Dr. Wajdi Ahmed Wazan.
3. The best social service work submitted by management staff awarded to KAU employee Abdullah Basalam.
4. The best social service work submitted by students awarded to both Hibah Al Wafi and Isra Baqays both KAU students.
A number of discussion circles were held the first of which was about the university role in promoting the social responsibility managed by Prof. Hamid Salih and Prof. Ayman Fadel, dean of the faculty of Economics and Management and Dr. Ubaid Al Mzaf professor of Sociology. The second discussion circle was about the role of banks in community service managed by Prof. Tawfiq Al Khayal, Dr. Fahd Al Otaybi from the faculty of economics and management, Dr. Fahd Al Olayan from Al Jazeera Bank and Mr. Fahd Al Onayzi from Riyadh Bank.
Three workshops were also held during the forum the first of which was about strategic planning in the social responsibility delivered by Prof. Ibrahim Bdawi, KAU Strategic Planning General Supervisor. The second workshop was about the private sector and the social responsibility delivered by Dr. Najah Salamah, Vice-dean of the Faculty of Laws. The third workshop was about designing quality initiatives in the social responsibility delivered by Dr. Kamal Abdulal, SADCO Social Responsibility Director.
