First Scientific Forum in Municipal Solid Waste Recycling launched

The first Scientific Forum in the Recycling of Municipal Waste to be held from 24-25 November 2014 at King Faisal Convention Centre was inaugurated by Prof Adnan Zahed, KAU Vice President for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research.

The two-day event is organised by the Center of Excellence in Environmental Studies (CEES).

Keynote local and international speakers are expected to gather to share their insights and expertise.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prof Zahed said the event was aimed to foster a culture of recycling and to make use of the massive tonnage of recyclable solid waste.

It will draw on the expertise of a cohort of local and international experts in the field, he also added.

The forum, according to Dr Iqbal M. Ismail, CEES's Deputy Director for Technical Affairs, will introduce the latest scientific methods and techniques in municipal solid waste recycling.

He also added that other issues relating to the recycling of municipal and non-hazardous industrial wastes would also be discussed with the aim of keeping up with the tremendous population growth, reducing the effects of pollution and preserving the environment through recycling processes.
