Profile

Dr. Jameel Ahmad is currently a Professor of English at Jeddah Community College (a unique and paperless college), King Abdul Aziz University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He was promoted from an associate professor to the rank of a full professor of English by KAU Scientific Committee for Academic Promotion, KSA, on 23/January/2019 corresponding to 17/05/1440. Way back on Sept. 18, 2012 (2/ 11/ 1433), he was promoted from an assistant professor to an associate professor of English by KAU Scientific Committee for Academic Promotion, KSA.

Research and Teaching Interests

Professor Ahmad has been at the forefront of research in English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics for over twenty years. He is core specialist in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). He authored ESP course books which contain integrated language and professional skills. He continues to make cutting-edge contributions to the field. . 

He has a unique identity as a successful teacher with more than twenty years’ experience of teaching at under-graduate, graduate and post- graduate levels. He is one of the few ESP teachers who have the passion for teaching Scientific English to the students of medical sciences, teaching of Business English to the students of business and management, teaching of technical English to the students of IT department.   Dr. Ahmad also taught English for competitive examinations, such as teaching of essay writing to the aspirants of Indian Administrative Services (IAS) , English for Business Administration, and English for Railway Recruitment Examination etc.

Education

He obtained his PhD, titled ' Structure and Discourse of Scientific English: A study of Scientific Research Articles by Non-Native Users of English' ‘and M.Phil. on ' Role of Educational Technology in English Language Teaching'  from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. India. He did M.A and B.A in English Literature with Special paper on Applied Linguistics from A.M.U. India. He has also accomplished with excellence a certificate course and a Post Graduate Diploma in English Language Teaching which are equivalent to CELTA and DELTA, from CIEFL Hyderabad, India.

Teaching Experience since 1996                                

Professor Ahmad is currently teaching English for Information Technology and English for Business at JCC, King Abdulaziz University, KSA. .

He has been the instructor of different intensive English courses since 2006 at JCC, King Abdulaziz University, KSA. He has taught English at undergraduate, graduate and post graduate levels from 1996-2006 at AMU, Aligarh ,India

One-year experience of teaching English to adults: working class Saudis at JCC, King Abdulaziz University, KSA.

6-month experience of teaching English to Saudi professionals such as receptionists, policemen and adult businessmen in 2006. 

Worked as an assistant professor of English at dept. of English. Aligarh Muslim University Aligarh. India. from August 2002 to August 2003.

Four Years' experience of teaching English for Specific Purposes, such as  MBA, MFC and Banking  Exams and group discussion and essay writing to the aspirants of Indian Civil Services(IAS) as a lecturer at A.M.U.Aligarh. India, from August 2002 to August 2006.

Eight Years' experience of Skill Based English Language Teaching to the higher secondary level students of Sciences, Social Sciences, Commerce and Arts, pre-medical and pre-engineering streams at the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India, from 1994 to 2002

One-year experience of teaching English language to the undergraduate students from the colleges of Arts, Social Sciences, Life Science and Business of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India during the session 1994-1995.

Teaching Interest: Teaching of English for IT , Teaching of Business English , Teaching of English for

Health Sciences  along with four Language Skills namely Listening, Speaking , Reading and Writing skill to the students who are pursuing general courses. I have passion for the teaching of scientific English to the students of medical sciences and engineering,Business English to students of Business and Managements and technical English to  the students of IT .
